Today is #InternationalBlackCatDay and here’s our not-very-international black cat Bill (short for William ChatNoir – blame Husb – he’s a Trekkie). She’s been with us for about 3 months now and she came via the Cats Protection rescue centre in Bridgend (she was originally Phoebe). Husb and I had been thinking about adopting an olderContinue reading “#InternationalBlackCatDay”

Drawing From Imagination
A few days ago I did a short online art course, the Saturday Sketch Club with the Royal Academy of Arts. The session was about drawing from the imagination with the artist Emyr Williams. It was so good for me because it’s something I just don’t normally do, I like to work from what’s inContinue reading “Drawing From Imagination”
#Caturday! Kitty Surprise!
It’s #Caturday Saturday and here’s a wacky photo of a surprised Sparta Puss with a little kitty pal who looks, frankly, a bit wooden 😉
Green And Yellow Mari.
I had fun overprinting my little Mari Lwyd lino block onto some circular Gel Plate monotypes. The monotypes were done using fruit nets and bubble wrap and Cranfield Safe-Wash relief inks mixed heavily with Extender. The three primary Process colours, overlaid, give a lovely range of secondary colours and tertiary tones. I was experimenting duringContinue reading “Green And Yellow Mari.”
Pop!
Now that I’ve made the decision to go all Pop Art with the “Triples” paintings I’m working on, the work is going quickly. Using a black line in a comic book style really appeals to me. Loads more to do as there are 15 portraits in 5 paintings. I hope I don’t hit another creativeContinue reading “Pop!”
Pushing Through The Block.
I posted a couple of weeks ago about how I’d hit a creative block with my “Triples” paintings, I didn’t know which way to go with them. I had some really positive encouragement from other artists and after a lot of thought (well, agonising really) I told myself to stop being so precious and makeContinue reading “Pushing Through The Block.”
Hitting A Wall!
I’ve been working on and off with these 5 paintings for a few weeks and I’ve hit a brick wall with them! I deliberately set out to work from my imagination rather than from life, which is what I normally do. But I’m stuck – where to go with them now? Should I go representational?Continue reading “Hitting A Wall!”
Having A Rummage.
I was having a rummage through all my portfolios the other day, looking for something important that I never found – I’ve probably put it somewhere “safe” which means it’s on the other side of the Multiverse! But I discovered all sorts of things I’d forgotten about, including these 4 sheets of sturdy cotton ragContinue reading “Having A Rummage.”
Inspired By The Dinner Party: Hatshepsut
I’ve hit a creative block! It happens. I’ve found that a useful way to deal with it is to do some technical exercises in my sketchbooks until I’m unblocked. I was having a bit of a reminisce and remembered going to see Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party in London way back when. I can’t remember whereContinue reading “Inspired By The Dinner Party: Hatshepsut”
National Gallery On My Telly: 3.
Another drawing from Tuesday’s televised life drawing session from the National Gallery in London, drawn from my settee. These two models held a 20 minute pose which wasn’t long enough for me to get the basics of both of them. The lower one is lying in an awkward position on the lap and it was really difficultContinue reading “National Gallery On My Telly: 3.”
