I cut out a cat silhouette based on our Bill a while back and rediscovered them, the positive and negative, as I’m clearing out my plans chests (that’s another story). I’m having fun playing with these little silhouettes on different backgrounds. Here’s the positive, I did the negative on the same background a couple ofContinue reading “#Caturday Silhouette: 2”

#Caturday (a bit late again).
It was #Caturday Saturday yesterday not today, Sunday. But what’s 24 hours between friends? I cut this silhouette of Bill (aka William Chat-Noir aka Phoebe) our little rescue cat, earlier this year. I found it while I was sorting through my plans chest today (desperately trying to declutter) and I realised I hadn’t even begunContinue reading “#Caturday (a bit late again).”
Hitting And Dribbling.
Getting some colour down at Swansea Fringe last weekend – has it been a week already? I was rocking out to Sons of Thunder (at Hangar 18) and literally HITTING the paper with my Inktense blocks. Then I hit the paper with my reservoir brush, dribbling the water all over the place. Sometimes the imageContinue reading “Hitting And Dribbling.”
Remembering.
Yesterday I posted about some painting I did a few years back, experimenting with acrylic paint on heavy paper. Here’s another segment of the painting. I started with translucent washes of acrylic paint, then I drew onto that base, but I can’t remember what I used to do the drawing. I’ll have to dig itContinue reading “Remembering.”
Paint Overlays.
I was experimenting with acrylic paints onto stretched paper, laying down some base colours with brushes then, when they’re dry, overlaying a coat of white acrylic and working into it with a cotton bud (Q-Tip) while it’s still wet. It gives a really interesting 3D effect.
A year ago, Husb and I took a short break in North Wales, near Eryri (Snowdon). It poured down! But I did some expressionistic drawings with soft pastels into my Daler Rowney black paper sketchbook, you can see one in the background (above). Click here to see a short film about it. I worked veryContinue reading
Let’s Get Ready To Roller…..
I’m rollering grey paint (Liquitex) onto black canvas (The Works) with a sponge roller. I’m trying to be as bold with my painting as I was recently with my drawings during my residency in Germany. Let’s see where this goes…
Getting Ready…
Getting ready to try a new approach to painting. I bought some square black canvasses, quite cheap in The Works, and I’m going to have a go at rollering Liquitex Heavy Body acrylic paint directly onto them with a sponge roller. I have a plan. Let’s see how (if) it works out.
More Layering, More Pretty.
Another of the random heads I drew recently a few days ago, with some additional drawing layered over it with my home-made walnut ink (bottom right). Like the head I posted yesterday, I scanned and loaded it into Adobe Photoshop and tried out a couple of different Gradient Map options (left and top right). And there’s moreContinue reading “More Layering, More Pretty.”
Layering Some Pretty Stuff.
I drew a random head a few days ago (top right) and today I drew into it a bit more with my home-made walnut ink (top left), not planning anything, just emptying my head of thoughts and letting my hand and the brush do their own thing. I wasn’t sure whether to carry on addingContinue reading “Layering Some Pretty Stuff.”
