Another of the bands at Hangar 18 at this year’s Swansea Fringe, Lurcher‘s bassist’s great expansive movements onstage got me scribbling frantically. At one point I had 3 drawings of him on the go as he moved around so much, I was determined to capture him on paper. It’s unusual to see such a livelyContinue reading “Swansea Fringe 2023: Lurcher 1.”

Swansea Fringe 2023: Celavi 2
Celavi was the first band that Husb and I saw this Fringe season, in Hangar 18 and I drew Gwion, who has an extraordinary look, like a Neil Gaiman character interpreted by Dave McKean. The colour theme of the set is vivid pink and black so I used a Faber Castell Pitt drawing pen andContinue reading “Swansea Fringe 2023: Celavi 2”
It’s That Fringe Time Again! Celavi 1.
It was the annual Swansea Fringe again this weekend and I immersed myself in Heavy Metal, Rock and Scribbling at a couple of Swansea’s heavier venues. Here’s my first drawing of the Fringe, at Hangar 18, of the singer Sarah from the Bangor-based Nu-Metal band Celavi. She wore this amazing stage outfit of black PVCContinue reading “It’s That Fringe Time Again! Celavi 1.”
I Forgot These….
Husb and I went walking up the mountains a few weeks ago, to Llyn y Fan Fach on Bannau Brycheiniog where I did some fairly detailed work with pastels onto painted paper. But before I started on the bigger pieces, I did a couple of hasty scribbles into my tiny leatherbound sketchbook, to work outContinue reading “I Forgot These….”
Marbled Mari: 1
I used my little Mari Lwyd lino block in three ways during my one-day residency at The Workers Gallery in the Rhondda Valley. First, to print onto a cotton shirt, then overprinting on top of circular monotypes, and finally I printed the block on some marbled papers I had made a few months back. IContinue reading “Marbled Mari: 1”
Pink And Yellow Maris.
Here are some different colourways of my little Mari Lwyd lino block and Gel Plate monotypes that I was experimenting with during my residency at The Workers Gallery in Ynyshir last week. It’s a lovely place, do try and visit if you can. The Gel prints were made with Cranfield Safe Wash Relief inks in Process Yellow,Continue reading “Pink And Yellow Maris.”
Green And Yellow Mari.
I had fun overprinting my little Mari Lwyd lino block onto some circular Gel Plate monotypes. The monotypes were done using fruit nets and bubble wrap and Cranfield Safe-Wash relief inks mixed heavily with Extender. The three primary Process colours, overlaid, give a lovely range of secondary colours and tertiary tones. I was experimenting duringContinue reading “Green And Yellow Mari.”
Monotype And Mari Lwyd.
I spent a day up The Workers Gallery in Ynyshir yesterday and took a small lino block of a Mari Lwyd I cut a couple of years ago. I thought I’d try doing different things with it. I printed a border on a cheap cotton shirt (here) and then I switched inks and printed Mari’sContinue reading “Monotype And Mari Lwyd.”

Weirdness Up A Mountain.
Husb and I took a walk up the mountain Llyn y Fan on the Bank Holiday to visit the smaller of the mountain lakes, Llyn y Fan Fach. I took some sheets of Somerset paper that I’d prepared in advance. This sheet was primed with white acrylic gesso, than brushed roughly with my home madeContinue reading “Weirdness Up A Mountain.”
