Just back from seeing a whole lot of bands. I’m one of the Swansea Fringe official sketchers and here’s one from last night at Crowley’s Rock Bar, a really talented rock duo called Rainyday Rainbows. Awesome. Now it’s time for bed …..
Cool Dude And New Video.
Husb has made a – very – short video of a mixed media piece I did a while back, combining transfer print and drawing. In it I talk about the method I used. And all in one minute!
The drawing is based on one I did in my sketchbook – I’m always scribbling people – and the transfer print is from an original photograph I took of some derelict building in the Hafod area of the city.
Drawing Musicians 5
Another little quick scribble from my sketchbook from the other evening when I went to see my young nephew perform with his fellow students on his music course. It’s not easy drawing people on stage, they tend to move around a lot, except for bass players 😀 I was drawing in the dark, couldn’t see the paper much, but that’s such good practice. The young musicians were great, some real talent there.

Drawing Musicians 3.
I went to our local college the other evening, to see my young nephew perform in his first gig. It was an assessment really, but friends and relatives were welcome to come along. It was a good chance to scribble people playing musical instruments, which I find quite hard. This guitarist was sitting down so I had a better chance of studying what he was doing.
#StandingStoneSunday 11.
It’s #StandingStoneSunday again on social media and here’s one in Swansea, in a suburb called Bonymaen. You can read more about it here. I drew it on my adventures with pre-historian Dewi Bowen and filmmaker Melvyn Williams a few years back, in the days before the Covid lockdown. All the megaliths on our travels are connected to the tale, Y Twrch Trwyth (The Boar Hunt) in The Mabinogion, the Welsh book of myth and legend.
#Caturday Archives 11.
It’s Saturday #Caturday again and here are some kitty drawings from my sketchbook archives. Sparta Puss was dozing on top of the boiler in the kitchen in front of the window. It’s Spring and the amelanchier tree in the background is blooming and the washing is being dried with solar power.
Drawing Musicians 2
My great nephew performed in his first college concert yesterday, so I went along to listen and scribble. It’s so good to see the next generation of musicians coming through, all teenagers and all obviously totally committed to their craft. Coincidentally the performance arts campus is my old school, Llwyn y Bryn. I hadn’t been back for half a century so there were many memories for me, especially in the arts block where the young musicians performed.
Drawing Musicians 1
I went to see my young nephew play in his first college concert this evening. He’s studying for Level 3 Music Performance and the students have been put into bands and they had to write some original songs and perform them. It was lovely seeing …. and hearing …. so many talented young people. Of course, I had to have a scribble or two, very quick ones as they were leaping about on stage.
