Artist In Residence: Day 5 – Hacking Lumps

Day 5 of my residency at Urban HQ in Swansea, and I carried on carving lino blocks. This one from an original drawing done with a life model is quite graphic-y. I decided to try out some different tools; I normally use very fine gouges but I went for this broad, slightly concave one which hacks quite bigContinue reading “Artist In Residence: Day 5 – Hacking Lumps”

Artist In Residence: Day 4 – Carry On Carving!

This is the reality of being an artist, you have to make your art and that involves day after day of repetitive slog. There’s no getting around it unless you want to go down the A.I./ laser cutting/ digital printing route, and I certainly don’t. So Day 4 of my residency at Urban HQ in Swansea, IContinue reading “Artist In Residence: Day 4 – Carry On Carving!”

Artist In Residence: Day 3

On the third day of my residency at Urban HQ in Swansea, I carried on carving lino blocks. They are 15cm x 10 cm, traditional grey lino and I’m using Flexcut tools for cutting. If you’re visiting the city centre, please pop in and have a look and pick up a free postcard of my work. TheContinue reading “Artist In Residence: Day 3”

Artist In Residence: Day 2

On the second day of my residency at Urban HQ in Swansea, I carried on carving lino blocks but I also started to put some of my linocuts on display in the space. I’ll add to them as time goes on. If you’re visiting the city centre, please pop in and have a look and pick upContinue reading “Artist In Residence: Day 2”

An Artist In Residence

I have just started an artist residency at Urban HQ in Swansea. It’s a creative hub and café on the site of the old Police Station. I’ll be there throughout April, working on my linocut projects in the little gallery space by the Orchard Street entrance. As the month goes by, I’ll be exhibiting workContinue reading “An Artist In Residence”

Sketchbook Archives: 42

In April 2014, I went to Pakistan on an artist residency. It was amazing!!! What a fantastic country. Here are some of my sketches and the last photo is of me and fellow Swansea artist Hannah Lawson at the entrance to our group show exhibition in Islamabad. It was such an exciting month. I lovedContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 42”

#Caturday Archives: 24

It’s such a long time ago now, that I did a month-long artist residency in Pakistan, it was wonderful. And I met a Pakistani cat called Messi. So I drew him. I was going through a digital drawing phase at the time, using a free Markers app on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Mari Lwyd On My Shirt!

I did my one-day artist residency at The Workers Gallery in Ynyshir today and had a great time, some really fascinating people came into the gallery and first off, I used my Mari Lwyd lino block to print up a cotton shirt, a cheap buy from TK Maxx, with Speedball Fabric Block Printing Ink. Husb and I made our own MariContinue reading “Mari Lwyd On My Shirt!”

Mari Lwyd, The Workers And Me.

Here’s some shameless self-promotion for my one-day artist residency at The Workers Gallery in Ynyshir this coming Friday. I’ll be bringing the flat-pack Mari Lwyd that Husb and I made from a kit designed by David Pitt for TRAC. It includes the outfit I printed with a Mari Lwyd design cut into a lino block.Continue reading “Mari Lwyd, The Workers And Me.”

Mari Lwyd – A Short Film.

Here’s a 1 minute film of some of my drawings of Mari Lwyds. I drew them en plein air at various Mari Lwyd “Meets” across South Wales, mostly before the Covid19 lockdown. The “Meets” are slowly returning and I’m looking forward to being out and about with them again in the coming Midwinter and NewContinue reading “Mari Lwyd – A Short Film.”
