Carrying on carving my little piece of plywood. I like experimenting with my Flexcut tools. Some printmakers restrict themselves to a couple or three tools but I like to try them all out, they give interesting textures.

It’s Caturday Saturday
It’s Saturday Caturday and here’s Sparta Puss asleep on my Flexcut cutting tools. She wasn’t too impressed that I was getting on with some art stuff and not giving her enough attention (enough is never enough!) so she subverted me!
First Ink.
I love that moment when I roll the first layer of ink onto a new lino block, seeing the image appear out of the light grey surface. It always gives me a thrill. It’s never the same again because when you clean the block at the end of a session, the light grey bits getContinue reading “First Ink.”
A First Proof
I did this first proof from a small lino block that is an experimental detail of a much larger image I am working on for something that’s a secret just yet. I wanted to try out different marks, especially using some of the tools I hardly ever look at. I’m liking the direction this isContinue reading “A First Proof”
The First Cuts.
I’ve made the first cuts on from the first lino block of the project I’ll be working on for the next couple of months. I’m experimenting at the moment, trying out different ideas and ways of cutting into the lino. This is a small detail from a drawing I’ve done. I’m using Flexcut tools andContinue reading “The First Cuts.”
Sharpening Tools
Just carrying on cutting blocks today for my pandemic printmaking project. I’m still in the early stages but I know what I need to do and that’s most of the battle, to be honest. I keep my tools super sharp as I’m carving the lino, using my Flexcut Slip Strop. I’ve cut almost a thirdContinue reading “Sharpening Tools”
Cutting The Stones
I do a lot of drawings and many of them become the basis of prints. I’ve selected 9 of my recent drawings of ancient Neolithic stone monuments to develop into linocuts. Well, I’m using soft cut vinyl instead of lino but the final print will look the same. The vinyl is very easy to cutContinue reading “Cutting The Stones”
The Final Cut
I spent this afternoon down at Swansea Print Workshop, printing the first colour of a series of reduction linocuts I’m making for a forthcoming exhibition at Oriel Ceri Richards at the Taliesin Arts Centre next month. There will be 12 linocuts in all and although I’ve started printing them, I had one left to cutContinue reading “The Final Cut”
