These are the first two scribbles I did in my sketchbook on Samhain / Halloween. I should have posted them first, I guess, not last. It takes a while to warm up so I usually do a couple of very quick ones at the start of a session.

Halloween sketching
I managed to get a fair few scribbles last weekend on Samhain / Halloween at the Elysium gig, in between headbanging and interesting conversations. The line-up featured Root Zero, Grindhorse 83, Pyrogaric and headliners Adfeilion. I bought a vinyl album by Adfeilion and have been listening to it, it’s fab.

Heavy Metal Legs: Elysium
Two blokes in short trousers at the night of heavy metal gig at Elysium last Saturday. Couldn’t resist scribbling them. The line up was fab…SUMP, Wall, Pyriah and Suns of Thunder. Very heavy, loved it.
Pencils First
After the mess I made of my last pair of legs (a drawing, not actually my gams), I sketched out the next pair in pencil, instead of going straight in with a ballpoint pen. I Done It Wrong!
Sometimes you put a lot of effort into something, stand back in satisfaction when it’s finished and…it sucks! It’s wrong! That’s what happened when I tried drawing the foot on the right a few days after drawing the one on the left. Maybe I should have done them at the same time.

When I sketch at gigs, I don’t just want to draw the bands. They’re often moving so fast that it gets a bit frantic so to cool off a bit, I draw the audience. Getting Started
Just started drawing an idea for a new woodcut, scribbled it out onto a piece of layout paper with a chunk of 6B graphite first then did a couple of more detailed studies. Next stage – getting some hand-lettering worked out….
