Half Done

I’m half way there with my new piece; I’m making it for the IWD (International Women’s Day) exhibition coming up on March the 8th at Cinema & Co in Swansea. I’ve cut and stitched half the garment from Shiohara Japanese paper, I’ve stitched strips of prints I made with a rubber stamp based on aContinue reading “Half Done”

Making My Mind Up

I did a lot of work today on the new artwork I’m making for the W.M.D. exhibition coming up fast. It’s part of a corset that I’ve constructed in paper. I finished the cutting and sewing and now I’m ready to stitch strips of  paper stamped with the image of German Expressionist artist, the lateContinue reading “Making My Mind Up”

Making A Start

I’m making a start on a new piece of work for the International Women’s Day exhibition, W.M.D. (Women of Many Dimensions) opening at Cinema & Co on March 8th. Print and stitch inspired by an inspirational artist and one of my heroes, Käthe Kollwitz. I’m aiming for a work made from paper that doesn’t needContinue reading “Making A Start”

The Cockle Picker’s Warning

I was supposed to be going off traipsing across South Wales today, drawing ancient standing stones with Dewi the prehistorian and Melvyn the filmmaker. I woke up to rain, not unusual in these parts and then Dewi rang to say he’d been talking to a cockle picker in Loughor who said the cockle pickers weren’tContinue reading “The Cockle Picker’s Warning”

Hands 1

I focused on the model’s hands at the life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop a few evenings ago. I blocked in the white first, then sanguine and finally black with conté crayons. It didn’t go too well so I tried again…….. but that’s for tomorrow …….

A Quick Head

A quick portrait sketch from last evening’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I used white, sanguine and black conté crayons (in that order) into my brown paper sketchbook. It took about 15 minutes.   I love to work with life models, it’s so absorbing to be able to focus and take myContinue reading “A Quick Head”

A Male Model [2]

A study from Swansea Print Workshop’s life drawing group last week, working with an older male model. The foreshortening was very difficult and I did a lot of reworking. I used white, sanguine and black conté crayon onto brown parcel wrapping paper. About 35 minutes.   I am putting my series of drawings of ancientContinue reading “A Male Model [2]”

A Male Nude [1]

The first of my life drawings last week at Swansea Print Workshop. I like working with this older male model, his face and body are interesting and he’s a very experienced model. This was a relatively quick sketch using white, sanguine and black conté crayons onto brown parcel wrapping paper.       I amContinue reading “A Male Nude [1]”

A Slow Head

After drawing a Quick Nude (10 minutes) at last night’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop, I settled down to do a portrait drawing for the remaining 50 minutes. I started with roughly blocking in some highlights with white conté crayon onto a piece of brown wrapping paper (about A2 size) then added someContinue reading “A Slow Head”
