An Older Model

Life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop last night and I did a quick warm-up sketch then concentrated on a portrait drawing, working with an older model, a retired teacher. I worked with black and white conte crayon into an A2 brown paper sketchbook.   Please click here if you would like to see more of my artworks.

Developing The Drawing

During last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop, I took photos of the development of my portrait head of our model. It shows the drawing in different stages of development. I used conté crayon in white, sanguine and black into an A2 brown paper sketchbook.   Please click here if you would likeContinue reading “Developing The Drawing”

The Life Model (Female Nude)

Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop and we had an older female model this evening. I really enjoy drawing older people, bodies and faces are so interesting, lived in, expressive. It was pretty full tonight, with a wide age range of scribblers, from early 20s to 70s, great to be able toContinue reading “The Life Model (Female Nude)”

A Face Of Distinction

Another Baby Boomer sketch and I’m coming to the end of this phase of drawings, with around 40 completed. I’ve been doing them at The SPace in Swansea’s High Street but it’s now closed as our temporary 12 week lease is up, so I’m going to have to find another venue to continue my sketches.Continue reading “A Face Of Distinction”

Spectacular

Continuing with my series of 30 minute sketches of Baby Boomers, I am so enjoying making these drawings and having conversations that are informing the future development of my work. I’m using graphite sticks into an A4 spiral bound sketchbook. I recently switched from A5 and the drawings are not so tightly cropped. I’m gettingContinue reading “Spectacular”

The Glamour

Continuing with my series of drawings of Baby Boomers, my latest model is at the top end of the demographic and is now aged 70. I have known her for over 40 years and she is still probably the most glamorous woman I know, always beautifully dressed and groomed, the sort of person who makesContinue reading “The Glamour”

A Focussed Face

I’m drawing quite a lot of fellow artists as I’m working my way towards 100 sketches of 100 Baby Boomers and this is the third artist who has drawn me right back. It’s quite good fun when it happens. I know that I frown when I’m concentrating and other people sometimes have a ‘focussed face’Continue reading “A Focussed Face”

Wild Curly Hair

Here’s another of my series of portrait drawings of fabulous Baby Boomers. I’m so enjoying doing these, the conversations I’ve been having are just as important as the physical act of drawing; it’s informing and consolidating my thoughts for the future development of the work. This Baby Boomer is a fellow artist and was havingContinue reading “Wild Curly Hair”

Slight Smudginess

I’m making a lot of progress on the 30 minute sketches of Baby Boomers I’m working on, I’m up to 30 out of my target of 100 people born between 1946 and 1964, drawn in pen or graphite. I decide what to use to draw when I sit down with the person, some faces seem toContinue reading “Slight Smudginess”

Eyes And Patterns

Today’s Baby Boomer, a striking woman with huge eyes and some fabulous patterns. One of my series of 30 minute portrait sketches of my generation. I’m aiming to do a hundred – I’m about a quarter of the way through.
