Painting My Plums

Back at the beginning of lockdown, about 16 months ago now, I lost all interest in doing art but got obsessively into cooking. I took photos of what I was doing as I went along and blogged them. Then I found Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook and got stuck into doingContinue reading “Painting My Plums”

Flowery Finish!

That’s it! Had enough of painting a posy with a palette knife! Way out of my comfort zone! It’s good practise though and I had to be really disciplined to carry on with it until I got something reasonable, rather than just slap a load of white paint over it all and recycle the canvas.Continue reading “Flowery Finish!”

Paint And Pyjamas

It’s the weekend, it’s 10 months into lockdown and to be honest, I couldn’t be bothered to get out of my pyjamas. But I did do a little bit more work on the painting I began yesterday with the Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. It’s run weekly by the painter Ed Sumner andContinue reading “Paint And Pyjamas”

Not My Kind Of Thing …… But ….

Today I had my weekly lunchtime date with The Cheese And Wine Painting Club run by the painter Ed Sumner. This week’s subject is a vase of flowers. It’s not my kind of thing and it’s hard, but it’s really good practice. The basics of the painting are done now but I’ll probably do anotherContinue reading “Not My Kind Of Thing …… But ….”

Another Fabulous Faking Friday

This weeks Friday fake with the Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook is The Daisies by Matisse. It’s a lovely composition, strong and simple with fabulous colours. I read that Matisse hoarded tons of stuff so that he had loads to choose from to arrange in his still life and portrait paintings yet his styleContinue reading “Another Fabulous Faking Friday”

Lockdown 2.0: Still Faking And Baking

Wales is in hard lockdown again, like we were in March, we’re going to be more or less housebound for the next two weeks. So plenty of time to fill up. Today I did another session with the Cheese and Wine Painting Club over on Facebook, learning how to copy a painting, this week weContinue reading “Lockdown 2.0: Still Faking And Baking”

The Finishing Touch: 2

I’ve had this fake Cezanne on my easel for nearly a fortnight now. It was almost finished but it took me a while to get around to doing the final touches as I wasn’t quite sure what still needed to be done and when to call a halt. It helped to have a break, withoutContinue reading “The Finishing Touch: 2”

Double Faking

I spent some time faking today, doing more work on the fake Monet I started on Friday and the fake Cezanne from the previous Friday. I’m a bit behind, never mind. I’m following the Cheese and Wine painting Club on Facebook, painting a weekly fake as one of my lockdown challenges, to improve my paintingContinue reading “Double Faking”

The Underlying Barbie-ness

I started this fake Cézanne last Friday at the lunchtime Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. It’s my 17th fake – one of the lockdown challenges I set myself was to improve my painting skills and I love studying the work of other artists. I began with a pink background, which was a bitContinue reading “The Underlying Barbie-ness”
