#Caturday Archives 7

It’s Saturday/Caturday once again and here’s my earliest drawing of Sparta Puss, when she was a little kitten (she’s 13 now). A friend noticed the sinister arrangement of fur on her forehead, it looks a bit like a skull head. She nicknamed her “The Third Kitten of the Apocalypse”. Luckily the strange markings changed asContinue reading “#Caturday Archives 7”

#Caturday Archives 6

It’s Saturday / Caturday again and here’s an archive kitty drawing. This naughty cat is a very young Sparta Puss and Husb caught her expression perfectly. He used a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with a free drawing app called “Markers”.

Just Some Tweaking

I’ve done a little bit more work on this painted portrait I started a while back. It’s based on sketchbook drawings of my young relative. It’s been quite a learning experience as I’ve only started painting seriously since the Covid19 lockdown started – I’m a printmaker and scribbler. But I’m pleased with the way it’sContinue reading “Just Some Tweaking”

#Caturday Archives 5

Aaaaand it’s #Caturday again, so I’ve been raiding my kitty archives. Here’s Sparta Puss mooching around while I scribbled her. Each little sketch took a few seconds, I doubt if I spent as much as a minute on any of them. Sketching at speed is good for focusing on the important details, capturing the essenceContinue reading “#Caturday Archives 5”

Playing With Drawings 3

I’m playing with Adobe Photoshop and some of the charcoal drawings I did during the first lockdown 2 years ago, using Gradient Map and a selection of Artistic Filters. The originals are in black and white and it’s expanding my imagination to change them into colour and try out some different effects. I suppose inContinue reading “Playing With Drawings 3”

Painting Klimt – A Short Video

Back in the Great Lockdown of 2020, I painted along with Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club over on Facebook every week, copying works by great artists. I’ve always loved this portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer and gave it a go. It took AGES Here’s a very short film of just a tiny bit ofContinue reading “Painting Klimt – A Short Video”

#Caturday Archives 4

It’s Saturday / #Caturday and here’s another from my kitty archives. This is Little Ming, our floofy tortoiseshell rescue cat, now sadly no longer with us. But she was 18 when she died which was really good considering the awful life she started out with, poor little mite. Here she is lying on top ofContinue reading “#Caturday Archives 4”

Digital Tryout.

Husb has been searching around for a free digital drawing programme for me, to replace the “Markers” I used on my old Samsung Galaxy 8 tablet. He found “Concepts” so I’m giving it a tryout. I did this very quick scribble in a darkened room while Husb watched the TV. It’s got potential, not badContinue reading “Digital Tryout.”

Doing It Upside Down.

I did a bit more work on a portrait I’m painting, time to do the fine details in the head and get the likeness nailed. I learnt a while ago that it can help, when you’re using a reference photo, to paint upside down, so you can see the image as a group of shapesContinue reading “Doing It Upside Down.”

Portrait Prelims

I’m working on a portrait painting and most of it is done. Now’s the really hard bit, getting a good likeness. I did an underpainting of the face and then some preliminary sketches to really study the face in detail, the proportions and angles. I drew these from a photo, the one of the rightContinue reading “Portrait Prelims”
