Another drawing from last night’s televised life drawing session from the National Gallery in London, drawn from my settee, I could happily do this more often. This model held a 14 minute pose and I drew with conte crayons in black, sanguine and white into a spiral bound, A3, brown paper sketchbook. Working onto a light brownContinue reading “National Gallery On My Telly: 2.”

#StandingStoneSunday: A Favourite.
It’s #StandingStoneSunday again and I’m posting an old favourite, Y Garreg Coch (The Red Stone) in Carmarthenshire.
Quick And Little.
Here’s another little sketch from the recent heavy metal gig I went to. These scribbles are small and very quick but they’re important, they train your eye and your hand to work together, and to focus on the essentials before you. Artist’s sketchbooks are a record of our practice, because art is something that hasContinue reading “Quick And Little.”
The Triples.
I carried on with my large paintings on paper, 5 at the same time. I worked on top of the pink foreground I’d blocked out with a Dioxazine Purple wash, sketching in faces and bodies of women and girls, in threes, triples. It’s a very basic starting point. I’m working entirely from my imagination, noContinue reading “The Triples.”
Hairy Man.
I saw him at the Mondo Generator gig the other night. I was drawing legs, as I’ve been doing lately at metal gigs, but I thought his hair and beard were interesting enough to look up.
More Metal Legs.
Husb and I went to a heavy metal gig on Tuesday – yes it was a school night but it finished at 11pm so not too late. Mondo Generator played at The Bunkhouse, a tiny rock venue in Swansea. I couldn’t pass up the chance to see and hear the legendary Nick Oliveri play andContinue reading “More Metal Legs.”
Prepping Paper.
I prepped some paper yesterday with gesso and my home-made walnut ink. I have to be careful with the ink as I am allergic to walnuts, proper anaphylactic stuff, so plastic gloves, mask and lots of ventilation are needed when I’m spreading it onto the paper. It seems ok to work with when it’s dryContinue reading “Prepping Paper.”
Just A Quickie …..
Just a quick little scribble in a cafe, took about a minute with a Faber Castell Pitt drawing pen into my tiny leather-bound sketchbook.
#StandingStoneSunday
It’s #StandingStoneSunday and here’s one I did earlier lol 😀 It’s a stone that lives in a small community on the North-East fringe of Swansea, in Bonymaen. The Welsh name of the area means the “base of the stone” and there’s a legend that it’s one end of a vast stone that travels under theContinue reading “#StandingStoneSunday”
#Caturday.
It’s #Caturday Saturday and here’s a blast from the past. Sparta Puss from 10 years ago, drawn in pen into a small sketchbook. She’s sitting on an old glass-fronted cabinet that Husb and I rescued from the street. There’s a cyanotype I did of Husb on her left.
