The Last Heads

And here are the last two heads that I drew at the Riverside Folk Club in Loughor last week. It’s right by, well, the river side. Gigs are a good opportunity for drawing as people are usually engrossed in what’s going on and keep reasonably still. Unless it’s a heavy metal gig. I’m usuallyContinue reading “The Last Heads”

A Nice Bit Of Perspective

Scribbling away at Loughor folk club the other evening, I saw this interesting arrangement of a hand in the foreground and a head in the back ground. Nice bit of perspective, I thought. So I scribbled it…..

Faces At The Folk Club

Some more scribbles from the Loughor Folk Club the other evening. Loughor is an interesting little fishing village on the estuary of the River Loughor / Afan Llwchwr.

At The Folk Club

Husb sings in a small community choir and they did a few songs at Loughor Folk Club, so I went along. Of course, I had to have a scribble. It’s held at the local yacht club which is why there are boaty things on the wall.

The Labyrinth

Today, Husb and I went to help with the annual maintenance at the labyrinth in Rosehill Quarry, installed back in 1987 by Bob Shaw and Dewi Bowen. It’s based on an ancient Cretan design and is cut into the grass, the incised path filled with crushed cockle shells that are a by-product of the localContinue reading “The Labyrinth”

Scribbling Yes Cymru

Husb and I endured eleven hours on a coach with the smelliest toilets in the universe on Saturday to get to and from the YES Cymru march in Caernarfon. It was amazing! Over 8,000 people crammed into the tiny cobbled streets and little market square, enjoying the party atmosphere and listening to inspiring speakers. ItContinue reading “Scribbling Yes Cymru”

Baggy Waders

I did some quick sketches en plein air at Brynmill Stream the other day, where some colleagues from the FIRE Lab were setting up an experiment in the water. I was fascinated by the baggy waders that they were wearing, I’d never seen any close to before.   I did a couple of very quickContinue reading “Baggy Waders”

Scribbles From the Bath Carny

Husb and I went to Bath this weekend to visit friends and go to the Carnival. I like a good carnival. When I was a nipper, there used to be loads of carnivals in working class areas, with floats and what we called “Jazz Bands” who didn’t really do jazz but tunes on jingly thingsContinue reading “Scribbles From the Bath Carny”

Snipe In The Dark Manner

This is the last of the drawings I recently did at Swansea Museum as part of a day with Edinburgh artist and printmaker Kelly Stewart, organised by Swansea Print Workshop. I did loads of drawings of the Snipe and this is done in the manier noir technique on prepared paper (please click here if youContinue reading “Snipe In The Dark Manner”

Another Blind Contour Drawing

Here’s another blind contour drawing I did, of a snipe, at Swansea Museum last week. It’s a very useful exercise, it forces you to stop being precious about what you’re drawing, to loosen up and to concentrate on closely observing your subject, instead of watching the paper.
