I finished this gouache portrait sketch of the Welsh actor Rob Brydon, in his incarnation as Uncle Bryn from Gavin and Stacey. It’s for the GS Artists / 9-to-90 Creative Community Art Festival in Swansea. Last year the subject was Michael Sheen – I did him in embroidery. I think I got a better likenessContinue reading “Uncle Bryn In Gouache”

After The Short Poses ….
After the short poses at life drawing sessions, we move on to 30 minute poses, where I can focus a bit more on the details, but not too much. This week I did a portrait and a reclining pose. Two of my favourites. I’m using gouache into a black sketchbook. AContinue reading “After The Short Poses ….”
The Short Poses
We always have a few quick poses at the life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop, a cuple of five minutes, one or two ten minutes. These are great because they force you to concentrate on capturing what’s essential, the basis that underlie the image. In the 5 minute pose above, our model poses withContinue reading “The Short Poses”
Another Faking Friday ….
How many’s this? Twenty six? Twenty seven? I joined the Cheese and Wine Painting Club back in April when the first 3-week lockdown was extended, thinking I’d spend a few Fridays improving my painting skills. Now it’s nearly Xmas and painter Ed Sumner is still running it, because we’re still in lockdown. It costs aContinue reading “Another Faking Friday ….”
Just Back From Life Drawing
Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop this evening, had a lovely session, we are lucky to have such a brilliant group of life models. I’m off to bed now, I’ll publish the rest over the next couple of days. This is a quick 5 minute pose ….
Finally Finished Faking Magritte’s “Son Of Man”
Finally finished faking the “Son Of Man” by The Belgian Surrealist artist René Magritte that I started last Friday with the Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. It’s surprising how complex it is. The composition is simple but the paintwork is very subtle and detailed. I could do a bit more work on it,Continue reading “Finally Finished Faking Magritte’s “Son Of Man””
A Head In Gouache
Here’s another drawing I did at last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I spent some time doing a portrait in a 25 minute pose. I used black and white gouache into a black paper sketchbook. A Chance To Own One Of My Artworks I have some small screenprints forContinue reading “A Head In Gouache”
Finished Faking van Gogh’s Sunset
Just finished faking another painting that I started last Friday with painter Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. It’s one of van Gogh’s earlier paintings, called Sunset. I used Liquitex Heavy Body acrylic paint onto a stretched canvas. It was interesting to work from a very dark purple background and to scratchContinue reading “Finished Faking van Gogh’s Sunset”
Wet And Dry
Here are a couple more short poses from Thursday evening’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. The one above is a 5 minute pose and the one below 10 minutes. I was using gouache for the first time for life drawing, white and black onto black paper. I enjoyed the feel of the paintContinue reading “Wet And Dry”
Yet Another Faking Friday …. with van Gogh ….
It Friday so it must be Faking day with the Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. This week we’re faking a van Gogh painting of a sunset. I think it’s one of his earlier ones. I think another hour should do it – but I always say that! This is my 26th lunchtimeContinue reading “Yet Another Faking Friday …. with van Gogh ….”
