July 2014 wasn’t just a month of time spent on Swansea Beach. I also managed to scribble quite a few heads into my sketchbook. I never go back to these and use them in another way. I don’t know why not, other artists use their sketchbook drawings for new work. Maybe it’s something I shouldContinue reading “Faces In My Sketchbook Archives: 47”

Sketchbook Archives: 46 – beer bellies and budgie smugglers…
I guess that July 2014 was a hot summer month going by all the sketches I did of people on the beach. The slightest bit of sunshine and we’re off down to Swansea Bay in our swimming cozzies. There were a fair few beer bellies and unfortunately a few “Budgie Smugglers” (Speedo men’s swimming trunks)Continue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 46 – beer bellies and budgie smugglers…”
With Minimal Strokes.
I went out walking in the dark one evening, down to the beach (I’m so lucky to live so close to the sea) and I took a pad of Khadi paper that I had brushed with a thin layer of black ink, to give a grey wash. I took some black and white conté crayonsContinue reading “With Minimal Strokes.”

Some very quick sketches here, from June 2014. One of the good things of having little relatives is that they get very busy when you take them to the beach, a great chance to do some speed sketching.
Picnic On The Beach
It was a picnic on the beach a few weeks ago, snatched when we had no idea how long this heatwave was going to last, making the most of it, sandy sandwiches and all.
Another Crisp Cold Night…
It’s another cold, dark wintry night and I’m cwtched on the settee in the warm, marvelling that a few years ago I wouldn’t be at all phased at going out for a walk with my sketchbook. But you know, I’m embracing my age and happily going through my old Winter sketches instead. Here’s one fromContinue reading “Another Crisp Cold Night…”

Here’s a snapshot of my sketchbook in September 2012, I was getting out and about, two cafes and a blustery day on Swansea Beach. There’s also a strange sketch of three pigs heads in the old Swansea Magistrates Court, I was involved in a very surreal short film…. And top left a scribble of the oldContinue reading “Sketchbook Archives: 17”

Here’s a snapshot of September 2012, when we spent a lot of time in hospital, visiting elderly relatives. The three at the top were patients in the ward with our relative, and the bottom two show one of our younger family members on a visit.

August 2012 was a very good year for my sketches en plein air, it must have been good weather because I was out and about a lot. The first four drawings were at the Balloon Festival at Ashton Court in Bristol and the last one was on Swansea beach with Mumbles in the background.
A Quick Scribble
Today I went to the beach. It isn’t far, just a few minutes walk, but I have hardly been there for months, what with the winter weather and the pandemic lockdown. But today was gorgeous, warm and sunny, and the Covid19 restrictions have been eased and the vaccination programme is going well. I had aContinue reading “A Quick Scribble”
