Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop this evening, had a lovely session, we are lucky to have such a brilliant group of life models. I’m off to bed now, I’ll publish the rest over the next couple of days. This is a quick 5 minute pose ….

A Head In Gouache
Here’s another drawing I did at last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I spent some time doing a portrait in a 25 minute pose. I used black and white gouache into a black paper sketchbook. A Chance To Own One Of My Artworks I have some small screenprints forContinue reading “A Head In Gouache”
Finished Faking van Gogh’s Sunset
Just finished faking another painting that I started last Friday with painter Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. It’s one of van Gogh’s earlier paintings, called Sunset. I used Liquitex Heavy Body acrylic paint onto a stretched canvas. It was interesting to work from a very dark purple background and to scratchContinue reading “Finished Faking van Gogh’s Sunset”
Wet And Dry
Here are a couple more short poses from Thursday evening’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. The one above is a 5 minute pose and the one below 10 minutes. I was using gouache for the first time for life drawing, white and black onto black paper. I enjoyed the feel of the paintContinue reading “Wet And Dry”
Just Back ……
Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop this evening. Tired now. Here’s a five minute pose. I used gouache which I’ve hardly ever done before, black and white paint into a black bound Seawhites A4 sketch book. Nos da. Good night.
Nearly But Not Quite
I did some more painting today – what’s going on with me? I’ve hardly painted since I was in art college back in the 1970s and now I can’t stop. The fabulous GS Artists have been organising free art tutorials, a mixture of Zoom and on-site (observing safety protocols of course). It’s part of theContinue reading “Nearly But Not Quite”
Passing On The Vintage
Here’s a 10 minute pose from last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I worked onto a heavy textured vintage paper – it doesn’t have a watermark so I don’t know the make. Over the past few years I have been given loads of vintage papers, and some tools as well, by relativesContinue reading “Passing On The Vintage”
The Foreshortened Foot
Here’s the 60 minute pose from last week’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I like the quicker poses because they lead to more energised drawings but the long pose allows me to concentrate on technical practice. I used a sanguine coloured conté crayon onto a heavyweight ivory coloured vintage handmade paper. The foot isContinue reading “The Foreshortened Foot”
The 60 Minute Pose
Here’s a 60 minute pose from life drawing session a few nights ago at Swansea Print Workshop. It has some difficult foreshortening and I ended up with two hands, two feet and a head which is a lot of drawing. It’s distorted but I like that. I admire the work of Egon Schiele, who alsoContinue reading “The 60 Minute Pose”
A Change Of Paper
I’ve been working on black paper for a few weeks, in life drawing, but I ran out last night so I switched to some lovely old heavyweight handmade ivory paper that I was given a whle back. I carried on using the conté crayons though, in black, sanguine and white. The new paper completely alteredContinue reading “A Change Of Paper”
