Trying something different today. Normally I work directly from life but I started drawing intuitively, using tiny fragments of lovely papers. Most of them had been prints that hadn’t worked out so I am recycling them. I don’t know where it will lead but that’s what doing art is about, constantly pushing and tryingContinue reading “Tiny Fragments”

A Head. Just A Head.
Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop. I concentrated on portraiture this week. I used my Samsung Galaxy Tablet Note 8 with a free Markers app to draw our model. I like working with older models as the faces have more texture and contours which, to be honest, is easier.
A Little Like Lowry
These long evenings are great for late walks and sketching. Husb and I strolled down to the beach an hour or so ago and I stopped for a quick scribble. I’ve done very little drawing en plein air recently as I’ve been so busy on other art projects but I have missed my daily sketch,Continue reading “A Little Like Lowry”
Flowers, Feathers, and Fish Scales
Here’s an interesting blog about how an artist works, their creative process. Flowers, Feathers, and Fish Scales.
Waste Not, Want Not.
So I was working with some fellow artists and one of them, a painter, chucked some black oil paint mixed with turps down the sink. Unfortunately, the sink was blocked so he filled it with water and squeezed some washing up liquid into it and suddenly it went all marbled. So, waste not, wantContinue reading “Waste Not, Want Not.”
Tomorrow I Scribble!
Here’s a short video that Husb edited together from a digital drawing I did some time ago. I used a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with a free Markers app and saved the drawing frequently, which showed the progress of the drawing. The model is a young artist who poses for our local life drawing groupContinue reading “Tomorrow I Scribble!”
Warts ‘N’ All
Here’s the last of my series of 8 silkscreen portraits of women artists that I’m launching this coming Sunday at London’s Art Car Boot Fair in Brick Lane. My final edition is of the iconic Frida Kahlo. I’ve really enjoyed doing these editions; I hadn’t done any silkscreens for about 8 or 9 years andContinue reading “Warts ‘N’ All”
A Renaissance Video
Husb has been turning my digital drawings into short videos, showing how the sketches develop from nothing to completion. I’ve been drawing on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 using a free Markers app and Husb has used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit them. This is one I did from a drawing by Raphael. Sometimes it’sContinue reading “A Renaissance Video”
Folk Heads
Husb and I spent a pleasant couple of hours at the Riverside Folk Club in Loughor last night and it was a good opportunity for a scribble. Folk musicians tend to move around less than heavy metal bands, no headbanging, so I had a bit more time to draw them. I did a couple of quicker sketchesContinue reading “Folk Heads”
The Bird Is Back!
Richard The Bird has come back for a holiday. His trained monkeys are off on their travels again so he’s having a vacation with us and the kittehs. He has already established who’s boss and we hairless apes are definitely bottom of the pecking order. He’s just taken a bath in his waterbowl and peltedContinue reading “The Bird Is Back!”
