With my fellow Plebeian Printmakers I’ll be making street prints at the madeinroath festival in Cardiff on Saturday October the 21st so if you’re about, please come and see us in action between 11.00 and 15.00. The theme of this year’s festival is ‘When You Have More Than You Need, Build A Longer Table, NotContinue reading “madeinroath”

Life Drawing (Female Nude)
Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop. Our model has been working with us for seven years and she’s an absolute inspiration. Being an artist’s model isn’t just a matter of sitting still, good models bring an undefinable something to the creative process. I love going to the sessions, the group of artistsContinue reading “Life Drawing (Female Nude)”
Focused Face
Here’s another drawing I did at the Swansea Storytelling Club on Friday night, at The Swansea Fringe. Husb and I went to the comedy club this evening and I was going to do some more drawings, but the comedian, Noel James, was too hilarious and I couldn’t stop laughing long enough for even a quickContinue reading “Focused Face”
Fringe Walking, Face Watching
Husb and I have been strolling around the events at Swansea Fringe this weekend, there’s so much on, it’s brilliant. We started out yesterday evening at Swansea Storytelling Club which is a regular monthly event. Of course, I had to have a scribble. It’s quite a good place for drawing faces because people tend toContinue reading “Fringe Walking, Face Watching”
Graffiti Tunnel 2
Here’s the second drawing I did at Swansea’s graffiti tunnel a couple of days ago. I like it a bit better than the first one I did. I think the composition works but I still don’t like the effect of the charcoal and chalks on the brown paper. I should have used black paper, soContinue reading “Graffiti Tunnel 2”
Graffiti Tunnel
I did some sketching en plein air at the graffiti tunnel off Swansea’s High Street. I used a brown paper sketchbook with compressed charcoal, chalk and soft pastels. I’m not happy with the sketch, it’s clumsy and tentative. I think I need to go back with some black paper to draw on.
Digital Playing
I did this drawing some time ago and I want to do some digital work with it so I photographed and uploaded it to my Samsung tablet and started having a play, using a basic pen app to start colouring in. It’s weird working over an existing drawing, it somehow doesn’t feel like it’s myContinue reading “Digital Playing”
Greetings Hoomins
Greetings Hoomins. Sparta Puss here. The hairless apes have put their pooters down for a few minutes and I have been browsing the Internet. I have made friends with a cat on Twitter. His name is Terry Barlow ( @terry_barlow ) and he has to put up with living in a house with a baldapeContinue reading “Greetings Hoomins”
Nasty Women
I have entered this little collage into a group show in London called ‘Nasty Women UK‘. I am hugely inspired by Käthe Kollwitz, the German feminist, socialist, anti-war artist who died in 1945, after a lifetime of using her art as political protest, being banned by both the First Reich and the Third Reich, aContinue reading “Nasty Women”
Sniffles And Sweets
I am such a wimp. I’ve got a cold and I’ve retreated to my settee with a blanket, aspirin and a big bag of sweets – Gummy Bears, my favourites (I rarely eat sweets except when I’m not well). I can’t work up the motivation to do any art while I’m wallowing in sniffly miseryContinue reading “Sniffles And Sweets”
