Husb and I spent the evening at a very useful ‘Make And Market’ event at the new Galerie Simpson on Swansea’s High Street. We had 4 very interesting speakers, two visual artists and two creative IT people, and networking over fabulous nibbles afterwards. The gallery has only been open a couple of months but hasContinue reading “Scratching An Itch”

High Tea on High Street
Husb and I popped into the new Galerie Simpson on the High Street earlier today, to partake of High Tea in the one-day-only Tweeting Bird cafe organised by Iris, who also did a lot of the baking. We took tea from a golden tea pot, munched on salmon and cucumber sandwiches and nibbled a varietyContinue reading “High Tea on High Street”
We’ll Be Back!
I finished my big drawing today at Creative Bubble artspace in the city centre. The art collective I’m in, 15 Hundred Lives, has been using the venue for two days a month for over a year now, this was our 14th event. The three of us, collagist Sylvie Evans, painter Graham Parker and me, useContinue reading “We’ll Be Back!”
Comparing Blues
I did some experimental cyanotypes yesterday, comparing different papers and fabrics. I used some of my sketchbook drawings for the imagery. The best results were given by a medium weight white cotton that was dipped into the cyanotype chemicals and squeezed to remove the excess. There was also a good result with the white SomersetContinue reading “Comparing Blues”
In The Beginning
I’ve been invited to take part in a collaboration between artists in Swansea and across the meltwater in North Devon. I’m starting to plan a new piece of work for it, probably an installation in cyanotype if it works out. I’m beginning with some sketching en plein air so today I took a walkContinue reading “In The Beginning”
SinABAD
This is a cyanotype , an archaic form of photography, that I did a while back. It started out as a digital photograph of a local Swansea nightclub, Sin City. I cropped, turned it black and white and printed it onto an acetate which then became the negative for the cyanotype. I have entered thisContinue reading “SinABAD”
Gentrified
I arrived early for a meeting with the art collective so I went for a coffee by the Waterfront Museum. It’s on the old dockside which has now been gentrified and is full of galleries, coffee shops and interesting nooks and crannies. The late summer weather has been amazing, warm and sunny and dry, soContinue reading “Gentrified”
They’re At It Again!
I’m a member of an artist collective, 15 Hundred Lives and we have been running a monthly public art event at the Creative Bubble artspace in Swansea for over a year now. September is our 13th event. We take the space for two days a month to work together as a group – a painter,Continue reading “They’re At It Again!”
Burgers
Husb and I spent a couple of happy hours yesterday with friends in Cwmdonkin Park, made famous by the author and poet, Dylan Thomas. It’s the centenary of his birth this year and there are loads of events to commemorate it in Swansea, including the arts fair in Cwmdonkin, with music, poetry and visual arts.Continue reading “Burgers”
The Gorsedd Circle
Husb and I had another long walk in the late summer sunshine this afternoon, stopping for a rest at the Gorsedd Stones in Singleton Park. It’s a tradition in Wales that the annual National Eisteddfod (the arts festival) erects a stone circle on each Eisteddfod site. The Eisteddfod moves around every year so there areContinue reading “The Gorsedd Circle”
