‘What Do Artists Do All Day? IV’

I’m a member of an art collective called 15 Hundred Lives and we have a regular event at the Creative Bubble Artspace in Swansea. We open the door to the public for two days a month and invite people to see what it is that artists do all day. Many people only experience art onceContinue reading “‘What Do Artists Do All Day? IV’”

Use It Or Lose It!

Yesterday, Husb and I joined family members and assorted Whovians on the Doctor Who Locations walk’n’talk, organised by the Swansea Library Service. It was a part of an excellent programme of free events coming up this month. I sketched one of the Who companions outside the Kardomah Cafe in Portland Street, that has a numberContinue reading “Use It Or Lose It!”

Window Dressing

I’ve spent a couple of days working with the 15 Hundred Lives art group on a big draw at the Creative Bubble artspace in Swansea’s City Centre. We were joined by a number of artists, art students and members of the public as we drew over cardboard-covered walls. It was a challenge to draw onContinue reading “Window Dressing”

Window Dressing

Finished the third day of drawing in public at the Creative Bubble shop. It was stimulating to have the space to work on a very large piece with other artists close by. I’m developing some large-scale drawings, overlaying different types of drawing media. This is brown wrapping paper underneath with tracing parchment on top. TheContinue reading “Window Dressing”

Up @ The Cove IV

I’ve blogged this large drawing once before, when I first did it, but I’m blogging it again because it’s being exhibited in a group show of drawings, ‘Up @ The Cove 4’, curated by Tim Kelly. Here’s a link to The Cove’s Facebook page if you want to see more of the exhibitions there. It’sContinue reading “Up @ The Cove IV”

A Tough Call

There was a demonstration in the city centre earlier today, to protest at the possibility of military intervention in Syria. I went along to do a bit of scribbling. It was very good natured with the demonstrators rubbing along next to some youth drama groups performing a medley of showtunes, and lots of people justContinue reading “A Tough Call”

Long Day And Night Of Art

It’s been a long day, doing art. First off, I was with my colleagues from the art collective, 15 Hundred Lives, at the Creative Bubble artspace in Swansea, doing what artists do all day, making art. People usually see art in its finished state, framed and hung on a wall in an intimidatingly white gallery.Continue reading “Long Day And Night Of Art”

Berries And Ruins

Swansea Print Workshop has a major exhibition coming up for its members, based on the theme of the industrial valley. Swansea and South Wales were in the forefront of the Industrial Revolution and the area is full of historical ruins. I went out sketching to the Lower Swansea Valley a couple of days ago; theContinue reading “Berries And Ruins”

Street Scribble #1

Sometimes I only have a minute or two to scribble someone in the street. Here’s an elderly man sitting outside Starvin’ Jacks the other day.  I grabbed my sketchbook and did my thing. About a minute and a half before he moved on. You never know how long you have so all the relevant linesContinue reading “Street Scribble #1”

Sleepless In Swansea

I’m a lifelong insomniac, so this morning at around 5am I thought I might as well use my sleeplessness productively and grabbed a sketchbook from the side of the bed, a black Daler Rowney spiral bound A5, and using a white conte crayon, I scribbled Husb. He could sleep through anything.
