Burgers

Husb and I spent a couple of happy hours yesterday with friends in Cwmdonkin Park, made famous by the author and poet, Dylan Thomas. It’s the centenary of his birth this year and there are loads of events to commemorate it in Swansea, including the arts fair in Cwmdonkin, with music, poetry and visual arts.Continue reading “Burgers”

The Gorsedd Circle

Husb and I had another long walk in the late summer sunshine this afternoon, stopping for a rest at the Gorsedd Stones in Singleton Park. It’s a tradition in Wales that the annual National Eisteddfod (the arts festival) erects a stone circle on each Eisteddfod site. The Eisteddfod moves around every year so there areContinue reading “The Gorsedd Circle”

Bigguns

I’ve spent the past two days at the Creative Bubble artspace in Swansea City Centre, with the 15 Hundred Lives art collective. We have the venue every month to give us the space to work together, try out new ideas and we open the doors to the public so that people can drop inContinue reading “Bigguns”

A Quickie

Just time for a quick blog tonight. Husb and I went to an outdoor screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’ on the street beach this evening and just got back so I did a speedy scribble of an old lady’s head, took me 4 minutes. And now to bed. Exciting day tomorrow. It’s what I’ve beenContinue reading “A Quickie”

Head Gestures

I did some gesture drawings of heads when I was out and about in Swansea earlier. Gesture drawings are ones that are done very quickly, capturing the essence of the subject, zooming in on the most important details. The drawing on the left was done in a few seconds, way under a minute and theContinue reading “Head Gestures”

More BIG Stuff

Back to the Creative Bubble artspace in the city centre today with fellow artist, collagist Sylvie Evans. We’re both part of the 15 Hundred Lives collective and we’re using the space all week to work big and try out some new ideas. On Friday and Saturday we’ll be opening the doors so that people canContinue reading “More BIG Stuff”

Action Again

Here’s a couple of pages from my tiny A6 spotty sketchbook. Husb and I were having a cool drink at the rather lovely cafe in Cwmdonkin Park. It’s right by the tennis courts so I did a bit of action scribbling. It’s good practice as I have to focus on what’s fundamental to the figuresContinue reading “Action Again”

Magical Midsummer

I wanted to draw the Midsummer sunset over Arthur’s Stone at Cefn Bryn, a Neolithic tomb 4,500 years old . It’s a spectacular place and the setting sun threw a dazzling pallette of colours across the Gower landscape. A lot of people were gathered to see it this evening. The sky was almost unbelievably colourful,Continue reading “Magical Midsummer”

Preparing For The Show

I’m putting up a double printmaking show this weekend; ‘Leftovers 4′ and ‘Public Gesture‘. The first has over 160 miniature prints from the USA, Canada, Wales / UK, Israel, New Zealand, Norway and Australia. The second is a small portfolio of 13 monotypes that were a collaborative project between artists linked to Wingtip Press inContinue reading “Preparing For The Show”
