Keeping At It

A couple of weeks ago at life drawing group at Swansea Print Workshop, I spent most of the session drawing hands, always a difficult area for me. I kept at it and finally ended up with something I really liked. I was working with an older male model and it’s interesting to see how ageContinue reading “Keeping At It”

A State Of Grace

Just back from life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop. It’s late and I’m tired, but it was a joy to draw this model, to lose myself in the act of drawing and forget that I’m shattered, my feet hurt and my back’s aching. It’s like entering a state of meditation – or a state of graceContinue reading “A State Of Grace”

Self Portrait With A Male Nude

This is one of my artworks in the new exhibition in Swansea’s Cinema & Co, I drew it the other evening at life drawing in Swansea Print Workshop using conté crayons, black, white and sanguine, onto brown wrapping paper. The exhibition opens on Wednesday March 8th, International Women’s Day and continues throughout the month. CinemaContinue reading “Self Portrait With A Male Nude”

Slow Selfie

Here I am looming in the background of the life drawing I did last night at Swansea Print Workshop. It’s a slow selfie. I always look so cross when I’m drawing. Ho hum.   I am putting my series of drawings of ancient Welsh monuments on Artfinder.  If you want to see more, please clickContinue reading “Slow Selfie”

The Cockle Picker’s Warning

I was supposed to be going off traipsing across South Wales today, drawing ancient standing stones with Dewi the prehistorian and Melvyn the filmmaker. I woke up to rain, not unusual in these parts and then Dewi rang to say he’d been talking to a cockle picker in Loughor who said the cockle pickers weren’tContinue reading “The Cockle Picker’s Warning”

Hands 1

I focused on the model’s hands at the life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop a few evenings ago. I blocked in the white first, then sanguine and finally black with conté crayons. It didn’t go too well so I tried again…….. but that’s for tomorrow …….

A Quick Head

A quick portrait sketch from last evening’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop. I used white, sanguine and black conté crayons (in that order) into my brown paper sketchbook. It took about 15 minutes.   I love to work with life models, it’s so absorbing to be able to focus and take myContinue reading “A Quick Head”

A Male Model [2]

A study from Swansea Print Workshop’s life drawing group last week, working with an older male model. The foreshortening was very difficult and I did a lot of reworking. I used white, sanguine and black conté crayon onto brown parcel wrapping paper. About 35 minutes.   I am putting my series of drawings of ancientContinue reading “A Male Model [2]”

A Male Nude [1]

The first of my life drawings last week at Swansea Print Workshop. I like working with this older male model, his face and body are interesting and he’s a very experienced model. This was a relatively quick sketch using white, sanguine and black conté crayons onto brown parcel wrapping paper.       I amContinue reading “A Male Nude [1]”

A Slow Head

After drawing a Quick Nude (10 minutes) at last night’s life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop, I settled down to do a portrait drawing for the remaining 50 minutes. I started with roughly blocking in some highlights with white conté crayon onto a piece of brown wrapping paper (about A2 size) then added someContinue reading “A Slow Head”
