To Stand And Stare…..

I’m having fun doing digital drawings of people with their heads thrown back; today a sunny little one, another ginger, who was gazing at clouds. Ah, I remember doing that when I was little. It brings to mind the poem “Leisure” by Welsh poet W. H. Davies …..   What is this life if, fullContinue reading “To Stand And Stare…..”

Having Fun

Only last week I was complaining about how I’d hit a creative block and how miserable I was with making art. Over the last few days I’ve been having loads of fun, doing digital drawings of people with their heads thrown back. It isn’t a flattering pose but it’s great practise drawing pretty extreme foreshorteningContinue reading “Having Fun”

In My Comfort Zone

I’m hooked now on these foreshortened views of people with their heads thrown back Husb and I went to the new art shows throughout the city today and I asked people if they’d pose for a photo with their heads thrown back and I got seven victims – er I mean volunteers! It’s been funContinue reading “In My Comfort Zone”

Another Nose Job!

Yesterday, I did a bit of drawing practise of a head thrown back with some severe foreshortening. It was so much fun that I did another today. My poor long-suffering family are posing for me. I have a lot of family. There may be a lot of these nose jobs…..

Putting The Work In….

Putting The Work In…. So the past few days I’ve been slapping an underpainting onto a canvas but now the serious stuff has to start, I need to get stuck into the details. I want to have the head thrown back from the torso so I took a few photos of long-suffering Husb (I guessContinue reading “Putting The Work In….”

Ooof! Hard Hands!

Almost at the end of the life drawing session at Swansea Print Workshop and I spent the last few minutes drawing the model’s hand. There was some quite severe foreshortening and it was hard. Very hard. OOOOOFFFF!!!! No matter how many times I measured up, they still look weird. I drew with a Samsung GalaxyContinue reading “Ooof! Hard Hands!”

Fierce Foreshortening

I try to get along to life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop as often as I can, usually manage every couple of weeks. This week I sat in a position that threw the model’s foot out at me, giving some fierce foreshortening. It’s really good practice; drawing underpins all the art I make, I needContinue reading “Fierce Foreshortening”

Head, Hands And Feet – Female Nude (Parental Guidance)

I recently worked with a female model who is a body builder. I had worked with her some years ago before she started her stringent diet and exercise regime and it’s interesting to see how the shape of her body differed so much from before. She now has virtually no body fat. Before I startedContinue reading “Head, Hands And Feet – Female Nude (Parental Guidance)”

When Things Go Wonky

Here’s the last of the drawings I did at last week’s life drawing session. It was an awkward pose to draw with some odd foreshortening and no matter how hard I tried to observe and draw, I couldn’t quite get it right. Never mind, it’s the practice that matters.     I’m working onContinue reading “When Things Go Wonky”

A Tight Fit (Male Nude- parental guidance suggested)

Went to life drawing at Swansea Print Workshop yesterday evening and sketched a male model who goes under the name of Ben D’Busse. I started with some very quick drawings and fell into the usual trap of not fitting the figure to the page. I nearly always run over the edges.   Ben is aContinue reading “A Tight Fit (Male Nude- parental guidance suggested)”
