A Last Little Quickie

And here’s the last of the very quick watercolour sketches I made recently, sitting in the sunshine on the clifftop in Southgate overlooking the sea. I concentrated on capturing the flow of the colours before me, rather than recording details. I’ve never been particularly into land / seascape art so I don’t have any hardContinue reading “A Last Little Quickie”

Proper Old School

I dropped by the studio of fellow artist Carys Evans today and we talked about how we work from drawings and preparatory sketches of models – proper old school. I don’t often paint but I have a go now and again and here’s one I made a start on a while back. The original drawingContinue reading “Proper Old School”

Drawing At An Exhibition

Husb and I braved the atrocious weather yesterday and drove down to Narbeth, a delightful small town in Pembrokeshire where the excellent Oriel Q Gallery is hosting a new exhibition from Swansea artist Keith Bayliss, “Swsana And The Elders“. We attended an ‘in conversation’ between Keith and Sally Moss. Keith’s work is made up ofContinue reading “Drawing At An Exhibition”

One From The Archives 20: Spiky Purple Hair

The first time I blogged this image was a turning point for me, as can be seen here. This painting featured in the last ever exhibition I curated at The Brunswick in Swansea. It is based on a drawing of one of our more colour coordinated life models. He had a habit of matching hisContinue reading “One From The Archives 20: Spiky Purple Hair”

Popping Up

I’ll be popping up at The Taliesin Arts Centre in Swansea throughout September with my fellow artist, Sylvie Evans, from the 15 Hundred Lives art collective. Our exhibition, “People And Place”, with painter Graham Parker, is downstairs in the Oriel Ceri Richards Gallery, running until September the 26th and we’ve been given space in theContinue reading “Popping Up”

“People And Place” – The Video

Here’s a short video about the art collective I’m in. It shows the 3 of us, a painter, a collagist and a scribbler / printmaker, at work. We’re called “15 Hundred Lives” and we have our first major group exhibition, “People And Place” starting tomorrow (Friday 21st August, 6-8pm) at Oriel Ceri Richards in theContinue reading ““People And Place” – The Video”

Working Flat Out

I’m working flat out for the group exhibition I’m in next month at Oriel Ceri Richards, with Sylvie Evans, collagist and Graham Parker, painter. We’re part of a collective called 15 Hundred Lives and as well as exhibiting together, we do a monthly public access event at the Creative Bubble artspace where we open theContinue reading “Working Flat Out”

More Paintingy Drawingy Stuff

I carried on doing the paintingy drawingy thing today. I stapled a bit of gessoed canvas to the wall and started rubbing Daler Rowney System 3 acrylic pigments, thinned with screenprinting medium, onto it with my fingers wrapped in rags. The original is a life drawing I did earlier this year. It’s odd using paint.Continue reading “More Paintingy Drawingy Stuff”

Paintingy Drawingy Thing

Today I had an urge to use paint. I’m not a painter. I don’t get paint but I really fancied using some earlier. So I stapled a bit of gesso-ed canvas to the wall and rubbed it all over with a yellow ochre acrylic pigment, put on with rags. It dried pretty quickly so IContinue reading “Paintingy Drawingy Thing”

Setting Up

Haven’t had much time to draw over the past couple of days because I’ve been working with the 15 Hundred Lives art group to set up an exhibition of our work at Creative Bubble in the centre of the city. It runs for a week, until Saturday June th 7th. Alongside the artshow, we’re runningContinue reading “Setting Up”
