David Hockney On Faking Friday

It’s Friday so it’s Faking day with Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook and this week it’s one of the Yorkshire paintings by David Hockney. I’ve got the basics down and now I need to spend an hour or two on the details over the weekend. Ed Sumner started the painting clubContinue reading “David Hockney On Faking Friday”

Flowery Finish!

That’s it! Had enough of painting a posy with a palette knife! Way out of my comfort zone! It’s good practise though and I had to be really disciplined to carry on with it until I got something reasonable, rather than just slap a load of white paint over it all and recycle the canvas.Continue reading “Flowery Finish!”

I Took My Time

At last I’ve finished painting the fake Klimt “Woman In Gold, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer 1” that I started a few weeks back on an online tutorial with the painter Ed Sumner. I’ve put more into this than any of the other fakes I’ve done throughout lockdown – over 30 so far – but apparentlyContinue reading “I Took My Time”

Paint And Pyjamas

It’s the weekend, it’s 10 months into lockdown and to be honest, I couldn’t be bothered to get out of my pyjamas. But I did do a little bit more work on the painting I began yesterday with the Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. It’s run weekly by the painter Ed Sumner andContinue reading “Paint And Pyjamas”

Not My Kind Of Thing …… But ….

Today I had my weekly lunchtime date with The Cheese And Wine Painting Club run by the painter Ed Sumner. This week’s subject is a vase of flowers. It’s not my kind of thing and it’s hard, but it’s really good practice. The basics of the painting are done now but I’ll probably do anotherContinue reading “Not My Kind Of Thing …… But ….”

Oh So Close

I’ve been working on this fake of Klimt’s “Woman In Gold – Portrait Of Adele Bloch-Bauer” for ages on and off. I started it during a Zoom painting tutorial with the painter Ed Sumner about 2 months ago and it’s about time I finished it. But it’s so absorbing and you could just keep onContinue reading “Oh So Close”

Déja Vu Drawing

Back at the start of Lockdown number 1 – remember that, in March 2000 – I started drawing on my daily government sanctioned exercise walks, using willow charcoal into a Khadi handmade paper sketchbook that a friend had sent me for Xmas. My dear friend sent me another this Xmas and Lockdown number 3 startedContinue reading “Déja Vu Drawing”

Done Tweaking

That’s it. I’ve done tweaking my fake version of “Girl With A Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer. I could go on and on, tweaking and refining, but I think I’ve learnt as much as I can from this one, so onto the next. I was having trouble with the shading on the face but wasContinue reading “Done Tweaking”

Sparta Puss And Scraps

I’ve been gradually working on a small painting of Sparta Puss, using up scraps of leftover Liquitex acrylic paints scraped from my palette at the end of Ed Sumner’s weekly Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. It’s based on a photograph of her curled up on a blanket crocheted many years ago by myContinue reading “Sparta Puss And Scraps”

Still Tweaking The Five o Clock Shadow

I’ve been tweaking my fake painting of Vermeer’s “Girl With A Pearl Earring” and I’m so very nearly there. I’ve slimmed down her cheeks and lifted the too-droopy left eyelid and firmed up her chin and jawline. But now there’s too much grey and black, the poor thing looks like she has five-o-clock shadow, soContinue reading “Still Tweaking The Five o Clock Shadow”
