Creative ideas come from all over the place. My Aunty got my Husb a bottle of Tomato Ketchup with Garlic from The Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight, he loves it and she likes giving him presents. Anyway, as he unwrapped it I squealed in delight at the packaging! Lovely brown cardboard cut intoContinue reading “The Beginnings Of An Idea”

#Caturday
It’s #Caturday! Here’s a #Cat. In the sunlight.
Rhubarb!
I picked the first rhubarb of the season yesterday. It’s the earliest I’ve ever picked it, it’s out in the open garden, I don’t force my rhubarb to bring it on early. I guess it’s the relatively warm and wet winter we’ve had. I did a drawing eight years ago just as the rhubarb wasContinue reading “Rhubarb!”
Welsh Cakes For Saint David’s Day
Today is Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant, or Saint David’s Day, here in Wales, a day of tradition and celebration and one of our finest traditions is Welsh food. I cooked some Welsh Cakes – or Pice ar y Maen (little cakes on the bakestone). Here’s a recipe if you want to try them. I usedContinue reading “Welsh Cakes For Saint David’s Day”
Nearly There…
I used my sweet little antique press today to carry on printing a little lino block. Here’s a closer view of the cast iron press, which is probably early Victorian and made in London, by Sampson Mordan & Co. These are often called bookbinding or nipping presses but it’s possibly one of the veryContinue reading “Nearly There…”
And …… Print
The little lino block is finished, the paper is cut, the work station is set up, so today I started printing using Cranfield Caligo Safewash relief ink in black onto Hahnemuehle paper. It’s underway!!!!! I’m developing an edition of mixed media prints for GS Artists from an original by Jamie Reid. There is aContinue reading “And …… Print”
Finishing The Lino Block
I made the finishing touches to my little lino block “Revenge” today, removing lino from around the edge and cutting it down to size. Then I cut the paper. I sourced a lovely sheet of Hahnemulle German paper, 230gsm, that’s a perfect weight and a lovely velvety surface. I’ll get nearly 80 pieces from it.Continue reading “Finishing The Lino Block”
Some Of My Sketchbooks
Just some of them, just a few…. I can’t resist them ……
Slow Work
The reality of making a work of art, cutting away at a small lino block using a very small tool and making the tiniest of cuts while hoping that I don’t cut the wrong bit. It’s slow work. I won’t try to cut every last detail at the first go, I’ll cut close but notContinue reading “Slow Work”
Carry On Cutting
I carried on cutting from my brown lino today, the first stage of a collaborative print with GS Artists and Jamie Reid.
