Slow Work

The reality of making a work of art, cutting away at a small lino block using a very small tool and making the tiniest of cuts while hoping that I don’t cut the wrong bit. It’s slow work. I won’t try to cut every last detail at the first go, I’ll cut close but notContinue reading “Slow Work”

Carry On Cutting

I carried on cutting from my brown lino today, the first stage of a collaborative print with GS Artists and Jamie Reid.

Nephew In A Hoodie

Nephew in a hoodie. Like it says on the tin. Drawn with a ballpoint pen into my A6 sketchbook. He’s so cute!

Knitting For Wildlife

I’ve just started knitting a Joey pouch to fit a small kangaroo rescued from the Australian fires. There’s an international group on Facebook co-ordinating the making of pouches, nests, beds, baskets, bird jumpers, bat wraps, koala mittens and hanging bags and there’s a local group too for the Swansea area. I’m knitting this withContinue reading “Knitting For Wildlife”

Slowly Stitching Sheen

Still stitching away at my embroidered portrait of Michael Sheen. Local artist Ann Jordan got in touch to comment that people often don’t realise the immense amount of time put into textile art. She has a fabulous solo show, Life And Loss, at Volcano on Swansea’s High Street at the moment, running until December 2nd.Continue reading “Slowly Stitching Sheen”

Carrying On With Michael Sheen

It’s slow but I’m carrying on with my stitched portrait of the Port Talbot actor, Michael Sheen. I’m doing it to enter the 9to90 Creative Festival that’s happening in Swansea this month. Lots of artists are running free community arts sessions – Patti McKenna-Jones and I are ging to be GS Artists this Friday withContinue reading “Carrying On With Michael Sheen”

Chonk!

I can’t keep the creative juices flowing constantly. I think most artists are the same. It isn’t a 9 to 5 job. Some days I don’t make art, but I still like to draw, even for a few minutes, to keep my hand in. That’s where the cat comes in handy, she’s always around forContinue reading “Chonk!”

Little Lulu

Here’s another family kitty…  shhhh …. don’t tell Sparta Puss! She’s a very slimline tortoiseshell cat called Lulu. I drew her on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 with a free app called Markers.

Shellac And Meths

So the new woodblock I’m working on has been cut and is now out in the shed drying after a coat of shellac and methylated spirits in a 50:50 ratio. It needs two more coats to seal it properly so I hope to be able to take a first proof from it sometime onContinue reading “Shellac And Meths”
