Creative Juices

Finishing things is something a lot of artists find hard. I used to. Once you’ve had an idea and worked it out in your head, it’s tempting to say to yourself, “Well, there it is. That’s the creative bit done. From now on it’s just graft.” And up to a point that’s true, but theseContinue reading “Creative Juices”

It’s #Caturday!

Caturday, an Internet phenomenon. Like cats. I read a theory a while ago about why the Internet has been taken over by cats. It reckoned that dog owners have always had a chance to meet other doggy types because they walk their dogs and take them to training schools and there are dog clubs andContinue reading “It’s #Caturday!”

Drawing standing stones across South Wales….

The Living Stones

We managed to get to 4 ancient stones earlier this week and this one, Ty’n y Selar, is near Margam, in a field right next to the M4 motorway. It’s a fine large menhir, around 8 feet tall, but the sound of the traffic really intruded into the atmosphere of the place, disrupting the peace.Continue reading “The Living Stones”

Build It And They Will Come

Back in September 2015, my artist chum Melanie Ezra and I ripped up filthy old carpet, bleached what needed bleaching, filled the window of a semi-derelict dirty old shop with art and artefacts,  set up an event page on Facebook, opened the doors and developed our artwork in the premises during daylight hours. OverContinue reading “Build It And They Will Come”

The Maenhir on Bryn Y Rhyd

Another site of ancient significance, a large standing stone in isolated magnificence in a field, this is the Bryn-Y-Rhyd maenhir/menhir near the village of Llanedi in Carmarthenshire. Maenhir is Welsh for long stone and this is a pretty massive specimen, towering over Dewi and Melvyn. I drew with carbon and white conte crayon onto a pieceContinue reading “The Maenhir on Bryn Y Rhyd”

Immense Character

I’ve come to the last of my Baby Boomer drawings for a little while as The SPace, where I have been doing these drawings since November, has now closed at the end of its temporary lease. I need to find a new place to continue the drawings over the next few months. This Baby BoomerContinue reading “Immense Character”

Drawing Real People

After getting some installations ready for a new exhibition in Penarth, “Print From Two Cities”, which I helped to install yesterday, I’m back to drawing my series of 30 minute portraits of Baby Boomers, my generation, born between 1946 and 1964. I’m aiming to do 100 of these drawings and so far I’ve done 20.Continue reading “Drawing Real People”

Maltese Cats Revisited

Revisiting My Sketchbook I’ve been looking through some of my old blog posts, there are over 3,000 of them, and it’s hard to remember all the artwork I’ve posted. Here’s one from just after Husb and I came back from a  short holiday in Malta, a gorgeous place, full of cats. I put some watercolourContinue reading “Maltese Cats Revisited”
