A Surprise Squash

A friend popped by today with a present – a Turk’s Turban squash, one of nature’s most spectacular vegetables. I want to do some artwork from it before I eat it but what to do? A watercolour? Or a collage? hhhmmmmm Here it is with some collage papers.

Let’s Get Ready To Crumble…..

I do a lot of cooking, especially baking, but I rarely draw food. I made a crumble today with raspberries from our allotment, some Bramley cooking apples from a friend and some wild blackberries. It was lush! The drawing is an old one, of some Tinker’s Cakes I made on a traditional Maen orContinue reading “Let’s Get Ready To Crumble…..”

Time Off

I didn’t do anything arty today, I’ve had a day off to relax a bit. I did some baking …. vegan coconut macaroons which didn’t quite work out. They taste nice but they don’t have the gooiness that condensed milk gives the traditional ones. And a tarte tatin with cooking apples from our allotment andContinue reading “Time Off”

The Huddle

Husb and I went to an event at the excellent Cinema & Co this evening, a showing of the Leonardo di Caprio documentary, “After The Flood”,  organised by the Swansea Ecobricks Community. The film was really good, there was a pop-up kitchen provided by Goggi – gorgeous vegetable byriani with chick pea curry and aContinue reading “The Huddle”

Peace And Pies

Husb and I have had a busy couple of months so we took ourselves off to the Lake District for a few days to stay with some of our favourite people and have a rest. I didn’t do any art at all! We were staying somewhere with very poor Internet and mobile access as wellContinue reading “Peace And Pies”

Seasonal Food

Sitting in the dark, watching TV, scribbling the cat quickly on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 tablet using a free Markers app. Been visiting relatives most of the day and am stuffed full of home made mince pies. Mmmmmmm …. seasonal food.

Winter Pud

I’m winding down a bit for the holiday season and spending more time with friends and family and socialising and really enjoying cooking for people. We had some lovely young relatives around this evening and after a humungous meal, we tucked into a hot steamed sponge pudding, made with butter and golden syrup and servedContinue reading “Winter Pud”

Relaxing

I’ve had a weekend off! It’s hard to do that when you’re self-employed so it’s a real treat when it happens. I saw lots of family and friends and I also did one of my favourite things when I’m relaxing, I did a load of cooking. I emptied the freezer of the last ofContinue reading “Relaxing”

Tart And Dumplings

It’s Autumn! Time for Autumn food. I have been given some windfall cooking apples and I had a few very ripe plums so I got the butter out of the fridge, made some pastry and turned the fruit into four apple dumplings and a large plum and apple tart. I would have drawn them, butContinue reading “Tart And Dumplings”
