The First Of The Samhain Scribblings.

These are the first two scribbles I did in my sketchbook on Samhain / Halloween. I should have posted them first, I guess, not last. It takes a while to warm up so I usually do a couple of very quick ones at the start of a session.

Halloween sketching

I managed to get a fair few scribbles last weekend on Samhain / Halloween at the Elysium gig, in between headbanging and interesting conversations. The line-up featured Root Zero, Grindhorse 83, Pyrogaric and headliners Adfeilion. I bought a vinyl album by Adfeilion and have been listening to it, it’s fab.

More Samhain Scribbles.

More from the gig on Samhain at Elysium. The headline band, Adfeilion played a very atmospheric set. I scribbled away in my sketchbook but to be honest, I got right drawn into the music and ended up headbanging…hurt like heck the next day! Samhain is also known as Halloween and in Welsh, it’s Nos Calan Gaeaf.

Scribbling On Samhain.

Husb and I went to a fab gig on Halloween / Samhain at Elysium. The line up was great, Root Zero, Grindhorse 83, Pyrogaric and Adfeilion headlining. There were a lot of women, both performing and in the audience. I had a scribble of course. Makes a change sketching women’s legs at a heavy gig,Continue reading “Scribbling On Samhain.”

Sparta Puss And The Magpie

Today I finished off the copy I made of Monet’s painting “The Magpie”, started with Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook. So many shades of white! I used Liquitex heavy body acrylic paints, Daler Rowney brushes for acrylics and a primed canvas from Wilkinsons. Oh, and a couple of palette knives. InContinue reading “Sparta Puss And The Magpie”

Skull And Roses

I’ve been practicing my painting skills with the Cheese and Wine Painting Club on Facebook, every Friday afternoon. This week our tutor, Ed Sumner, added an extra session on Saturday inspired by Halloween and Día de Muertos. It included a very thorough and useful instruction on how to draw a skull from scratch. We startedContinue reading “Skull And Roses”

Faking Magpie

I had a faking fun Friday with painter Ed Sumner’s Cheese and Wine Painting Club over on Facebook. Each Friday throughout lockdown Ed has hosted a painting session for people at all levels of ability, teaching painting skills by copying famous works of art. Today it was “The Magpie” by Monet. There’s a surprising amountContinue reading “Faking Magpie”

Swedes, Spit And Soft Apples

Swedes, Spit And Soft Apples   So it’s Halloween again and the streets are full of moppets in Gothic whimsy collecting enough sugary snacks to keep them in sugar rushes until the Easter Bunny brings them shed loads of chocolate. It wasn’t like this when I were a lass. The boy opposite’s Dad carved himContinue reading “Swedes, Spit And Soft Apples”

Plumb Tuckered

It’s been a long hard day of arty shenanigans. I started early this morning playing a ranting judge in a short film being made by friends. Then onto a second day of drawing in public at the Creative Bubble artspace in the city centre – I do this for a couple of days a monthContinue reading “Plumb Tuckered”

The Big Draw-ing

The 15 Hundred Lives art collective that I’m a member of is holding a Big Draw event at the Creative Bubble artspace for a couple of days. October is not only the month of the national Big Draw, the world’s biggest drawing festival, it’s also the month of All Hallow’s Eve, an ancient festivalContinue reading “The Big Draw-ing”
