Ban The Bedroom Tax!

This is a monotype I made from an original drawing I did in my sketchbook at a demonstration against the “Bedroom Tax”, or Spare Room Subsidy, introduced by the government in 2012. It resulted in hardship for many people. It’s one of the artworks I’m exhibiting at Swansea’s Cinema & Co in a joint showContinue reading “Ban The Bedroom Tax!”

Tent City II

Here’s another monotype I did recently with chine collé from an original sketchbook drawing at London’s “Tent City” a few years ago, the Occupy London protest outside Saint Paul’s Cathedral. My sketchbooks are full of scribbles from life and I don’t often find a way of using them, but recently I’ve done a small seriesContinue reading “Tent City II”

Lashings….

Two revolting women just finished setting up our exhibition which opens tomorrow evening (March 8th) at Cinema & Co from 5.30. That’s Patricia McKenna-Jones and yours truly. If you’re out and about in Swansea tomorrow evening, pop in and see us. There’s lots going on and there will be lashings of home-made cake. Please clickContinue reading “Lashings….”

Tatts And Flowers

I went to a talk at the Glynn Vivian art gallery in Swansea a few days ago and had a quick scribble of people in the audience. I noticed this woman with an armful of tattoos, a big hairbow and a retro floral dress. Made me smile.

Tent City

Back in 2012 I was up in London for a couple of days and looked in on the Occupy London camp outside St. Paul’s Cathedral. I had a scribble, it was a higgledy piggledy mass of multi-coloured tents and ramshackle structures and it was great to draw in my little sketchbook. This is a detailContinue reading “Tent City”

Vintage Paper

Here’s another monotype in progress with chine collé to add colour. I’ve used a beautiful vintage British paper by W. H. Saunders that found its way to me from an elderly retired printmaker and bookbinder via a print dealer and connoisseur. The chine collé is hand-made recycled silk sari paper with lovely fibres running throughContinue reading “Vintage Paper”

The Ghosts Of Drawings

I’ve been busy making monotypes today, ready for International Women’s Day and an exhibition I’m organising with Patricia McKenna Jones. We have both been drawing into our sketchbooks for many years and we’re working some of our sketches up into prints. Here are the ghosts of the drawings on the inked-up Perspex, the prints willContinue reading “The Ghosts Of Drawings”

Chilled Out

Sparta Puss isn’t lazy. She’s just relaxed. So she says. My digital drawing, Husb’s caption.

Fun With The Family

Husb and I took two young relatives to the Glynn Vivian art gallery in Swansea today. Every Saturday there’s a free, family-friendly art session with a resident artist who encourages people to draw and paint, inspired by artists in the gallery collection. This week focused on the artist Ceri Richards and the poet Vernon Watkins.Continue reading “Fun With The Family”
